Murder's Sounding
2019
Murder's sounding was an intensive traveling studio in an attempt to find the relationship between city and map, and place and space. In an attempt to find the city, we conducted absurd derives, wrote false histories and walked convoluted routes. We dismantled map elements and reconstructed them in illogical ways. We abstracted and re-created maps, to write new tour guides, warping the history and reality.
Rather than photographs or drawings, we experimented with viewing the city through the lens of virtual reality capture and 360 sound recordings. These forms of documentation felt closer to the reality of a city. A map can be printed and easily distributed - how do you communicate a city documented in these formats?

Utilising the complex geometry of a boy surface, the aim of the studio was to translate our explorations and abstractions of the city within a parametric pavilion design through a series of parametric modelling, and programming within the pavilion.
